Clancy, the Cop" rests on his beat in the gas-lit Street of Yesterday in the "Forward March of America" exhibit at the New York World's Fair, a scene that has virtually disappeared from the modern American city with the advent of electric lighting.
Clancy and the residents of the Old Street welcome visitors to the Electric Light and Power Companies exhibit before the visitors pass along to the Avenue of Tomorrow, the ultramodern business thoroughfare with its sparkling plate glass windows and brilliant lighting effects.

WHEN LIFE DID NOT BEGIN AT 8:40
Believe it or not, there is a hot time in the old town tonight. This is the street of 1892 in FORWARD MARCH OF AMERICA, exhibit of the Electric Light and Power Companies at the New York World's Fair. And there's a celebration going on -- the Tenth Anniversary of the Electrical Industry. Notice the string of 16-candle power lamps across the Electric Light Company office and the flickering gas street lights. That was high-powered lighting in those days .
